This training provides an introduction and overview of Substance Use Disorders. We will explore the 10 different classes of substances and their effects outlined in the DSM 5; and the specific criteria for a diagnosis of Substance Use Disorder (Mild, Moderate or Severe). The available levels of care along with the varied continuum of treatment modalities will be presented. Case examples will be provided for small group discussion, to provide opportunities to assess mock clients for diagnosis and referrals to appropriate levels of care.
