Each disorder carries a specific belief system that informs the individuals behavior and identifying such a process serves invaluable to the treatment process as you gain an insight into the development of the behavior and not only a description of the problem itself. The belief system of the sex addict is complex and carries with it a history of trauma, family dysfunction, issues related to self-esteem, and an unhealthy attachment to sex.
